  • Message from paster melany

A Special Note from Pastor Melany
Let me start by saying that God is always with us, even when it doesn't feel like it. Especially when it doesn't feel like it.

Not only did God provide a new Modern Worship Director for us, right in our midst, but God also provided a new Discipleship Director for this summer.

Maddy Martinson, member of MUMC and recent college graduate with a degree in Christian Ministry, will be serving on staff for the summer to help with many of Rachel's current duties from Vacation Bible School, to BackPack Giveaway and Fall Kick Off!  Maddy also assisted us with an internship for two summers and is very familiar with our programming and ministries. Welcome Maddy on board the next time you see her!

  • Last message on change

    by Pastor Melany

Come and join us as Pastor Melany begins her final message on change -  remembering all we have accomplished together and offering encouragement for the change ahead.
    Sunday at 9 & 11 AM

  • Welcome our new modern worship director

Robert Monahan, a current member of the Worship Band, is coming on staff to become our new Modern Worship Director! Pastor Melany, Pastor Erin, and the SPRC (personnel committee) joined together, making this hire possible. Rob has been teaching music lessons to young students within our building for almost a year now, plays multiple instruments himself, and was raised in a United Methodist Church. Rob has been volunteering his time with our band during our 11am service since January, assisting Rachel when help was needed. God surely knew our needs and met them before we realized we even had a need! Rob lives in Marshall, is married to Mariah and has one little one, daughter Twyla.

  • Congratulations Labram Family

As SPRC chair here at MUMC,  I am pleased to announce that Pastor Rachel Labram will begin her first ministry appointment July 1, 2021.  The Bishop has assigned Rachel to Concord and Quincy United Methodist Churches.  Please hold Rachel and her family, husband Ken, and son's Brody and Brennan in your prayers as they prepare for this transition.
    In God's Loving Hands,

  • A thank you from starr commonwealth

    Dear MUMC Members,
As you know, the Starr Commonwealth campus is fully alive with children’s voices and lots of playful activity. Once again, we are blessed to be providing a refuge for children, a place of hope and healing. Today, we take stock at what has been accomplished in regards to caring for these beautiful young people in such a short period of time, and we recognize that it was only possible because of you!
Whether you provided clothing, shoes, toys, basket balls, soccer balls, duffel bags or a cash donation, we say thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Thank you for recognizing the dignity and value of these youth. Thank you for providing important items for them, when the need was great and time was of the essence. We are filled with love and gratitude for all you did to bring about the smiles, thank yous and “happy dances” that we are seeing today.
    Many Blessings,
    Lynn E. Komasara

  • Pastor Melany's new appointment

Pastor Melany has been called onward
As Chairperson of the Staff-Parish Relations Committee of our church, I have the responsibility to announce the appointment of our pastor, Melany Chalker, to the Eaton Rapids United Methodist Church in Eaton Rapids, Michigan, effective July 1, 2021. This appointment has been made by our Bishop, David Bard, in consultation with the Cabinet of the Michigan Conference. The decision to appoint Pastor Melany to the Eaton Rapids United Methodist Church occurred after considerable prayer, discussion, and discernment. After discussion with the District Superintendent and her own discernment through prayer, Pastor Melany has agreed to accept this new appointment. We hope to be hearing who our new pastor will be soon.

  • Fresh Expressions

Playing basketball with a bunch of other guys early in the morning one day of the week, after sharing a story about Jesus hanging out with his buds?
Sitting in a restaurant with a bunch of friends on Sunday evening, sharing a meal after a story about Jesus and how important gathering over a meal was to him?
Getting together with other parents of young children for a walk down the river's edge, after starting out with a story about Jesus and how much he loved the children?

    Four have already come forward:
Kris Chill is dreaming about gathering others who play instruments and creating an opportunity to gather, hear a devotion, offer prayer, and then dusting off those instruments and playing some beautiful music together!
Cami Millsap is dreaming about partnering with a healthy restaurant or other business where she can gather others who have an interest in learning how to eat more healthy, while learning how Jesus brought health and happiness into his way of living.
Ed Ramos is dreaming about gathering others who speak Spanish and offering them a new form of worship and friendship.
Marge Locks is dreaming about partnering with others who enjoy gardening, sharing plants and ideas as they grow in faith at the same time.

    Life is different. Always changing.
Vital and vibrant churches learn new ways of serving those around us.
If you have a dream or would like to join with others to create a new Fresh Expression of worship, contact Pastor Melany here for more info.
